Changeling VR - Technical Artist

Changeling VR is a narrative mystery VR game under development created by Magic RIT. I contributed to this game as a Technical Artist for the game from May 2024 till December 2024. As a technical artist, I had the role of creating 3d assets, materials, particle effects, post processes, rigs, and animations for the game. I also helped optimize the game by simplifying assets, textures, and shaders to increase overall performance without affecting the aesthetic of the game. I worked with different teams of game designers and actively communicated with them to deliver the most optimized versions of the assets required by them to achieve their design goals.
Some of my key contributions to the game are:
Modeling the fireball and its particle effect in Douglas’ level
Designing the tether beam and force field particle effect in Niagara for the mother’s level
Achieving the persona-like feel in father’s level requested by the design team by using a toon and outline post process
Redesigning an optimized version of the Fae character model to reduce poly-count while retaining the former design
Other contributions include creating 3d assets for other levels, fixing model faces and adding faces to models without faces, fixing mother’s hand rig reflection in the mother’s level.
Additionally, I optimized the game by finding issues like the use of high-poly models for the environment, unwanted light calculations, and over-complicated shaders and helped reduce draw times and GPU usage using instancing for a better VR experience.
